Síðustu daga hefur gengið yfir bylgja af fréttum um hversu mikið CO2 útblástur Breta hefur aukist. Alls konar stofnanir að álykta og senda frá sér skýrslur um þessi mál. Sjálfur skil ég ekki hvað er málið, það er ósköp einfaldlega hægt að leggja útblástursskatt á eldsneyti. Þannig er einfalt að láta fólk og fyrirtæki bera þunga skattsins í samræmi við losunina sem það veldur. Þetta er alveg beisik. Þannig munum við leysa málið á fáeinum árum eða áratugum því þegar efnahagslegu hvatarnir eru fyrir hendi mun fólk leitast við að spara orku og leggja sig fram um að þróa nýjar lausnir. Sagt er að útblástur bandarísks einkabíls hafi minnkað um 50% í kjölfar olíukreppunnar (þá reyndar lögðu yfirvöld sitt af mörkum til að flýta fyrir þróuninni, sem ekki virðist mikil áhugi á hjá W&Co).
